Mexico insurance & counter costs
Required liability is not the same as optional damage protection. Booking channel can change what is already included.
What coverage is required at pickup?
If you booked a current direct Europcar Mexico Basic-or-higher package, required liability plus CDW/theft are already included. If your booking does not include them, TPL is mandatory, and declining CDW with credit-card coverage requires a bank letter plus a very large guarantee; if you cannot meet the guarantee, CDW becomes mandatory.
Third-party liability
Europcar Mexico publishes mandatory TPL/PLI up to 250,000 MXN. Current direct Basic package includes it; other rates may charge it separately unless expressly included.
Damage protection (CDW / LDW)
Deposit impact
Basic cover: With CDW on the current published class table: roughly 18,000-50,000 MXN. Without CDW: roughly 170,000-400,000 MXN for the listed classes.
Fuller protection: Depends on the selected protection package and vehicle category; higher protection can reduce the required guarantee.
Deposit differs with basic required cover versus fuller protection — see details.

Credit-card damage coverage
Extra counter coverage
Deposit with basic / required cover
With CDW on the current published class table: roughly 18,000-50,000 MXN. Without CDW: roughly 170,000-400,000 MXN for the listed classes.
Deposit with fuller protection
Depends on the selected protection package and vehicle category; higher protection can reduce the required guarantee.
Liability details
TPL/PLI is mandatory. It is included in certain rates, including the current direct Basic package, but Europcar says it must be paid in addition to the daily rate unless the rate expressly states it is included. Third-party travel-site liability is not accepted.
Damage waiver details
LDW/CDW is optional when the renter can prove qualifying credit-card coverage and provide the required guarantee. If the card cannot support the required guarantee, Europcar says LDW/CDW becomes mandatory. Current direct Basic package includes CDW/theft with a deductible.
Outside liability proof
The official sources do not publish a clear answer.
Optional counter products
Direct packages include protection layers and upgrades can reduce deductibles. Declining LDW/CDW requires bank proof of credit-card coverage and a very large guarantee.
Booking channel
Booking channel matters materially. Direct Europcar Mexico packages can include PLI/CDW/theft; third-party/OTA rates can have different inclusions and must be checked in the confirmation.
