The rule is published for the specific airport branch. This is the strongest evidence we accept and what we prefer for every record.

How we verify ID and document requirements

• Airport or branch-specific official rules take priority over broader company guidance.
• When the branch is silent, we can use an official provider-country policy, then provider-global guidance as a fallback.
• Official government guidance can clarify license or IDP validity, but it does not override a stricter rental-company pickup rule.
• Required, Recommended, Conditional and Unknown remain separate. We never turn a recommendation into a requirement.
• Unknown means the relevant official material was checked but does not give a clear answer. It does not mean the field was skipped.
• Different branches or airport sectors remain separate records when their rules differ.

Mexico insurance & counter costs

We now also research insurance and counter-cost requirements where that module has been specifically verified. Today that expanded coverage exists for Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) only — it is not yet researched for the other airports we cover.

• Required third-party liability and optional damage protection (CDW/LDW) are different things. We record whether cover is required separately from whether it is already included in the rate.
• Package inclusions booked directly with a provider can differ from OTA or third-party reservations, so we record that caveat where the official material states it.
• Branch-specific official sources still override broader provider guidance, and Unknown stays Unknown — we never infer coverage from silence.

How we handle gaps

• If a company does not publish a figure, the page says Not published. It never shows a guessed number.
• If a rule exists only at brand level, the page labels it provider-level and tells you to confirm with the branch.
• If an airport has multiple rental branches with different rules, each branch is shown separately rather than merged.
• Records carry the month they were last verified, so you can judge how current an answer is.

Limits you should know about

Rental terms change without notice and individual counter staff apply them with some discretion. This site tells you what the published requirements are — it cannot guarantee a specific outcome at the desk. For anything critical to your trip, confirm directly with the branch.
